Barasoain Church, Historical Perspective

The Church of Barasoain was one of the historical churches in the Philippines because it is in this place where the Philippine Constitution was drafted and ratified for which reason the late President Ferdinand Marcos declared it by Presidential Decree No. 260 dated August 1, 1973 as historical landmark.  The Church  was founded by the Augustinian Missionary.  It was reported that it started as early as in 1816,  when Fr. Melchor Fernandez built a small ermita in the visita of Barasaoain.  It was also reported that in 1830,  the original church was only made of bamboo and nipa hut. On December 2, 1854, Malolos was divided into three town, namely, Malolos herself, Sta. Isabel and Barasoain. In 1859, Barasoain was made a full pledge parish under the patronage of  Nuestra Senora Del Carmen.
