Most Rev. Jose Oliveros dies at 71
The bishop of the Diocese of Malolos, Most Rev. Jose F. Oliveros, DD. had passed away on 11 May 2018, 9:00 AM. He was the fourth bishop of the diocese.
He was born on 11 September 1946. His parents were Vicente Oliveros and Angelina Francisco. He is from Quezon town in Quezon province.
He was ordained a priest on 28 November 1970 in Luneta (Rizal Park) Manila by Pope Paul VI. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 2 February 2000 as the Bishop of the Diocese of Boac. He was consecrated bishop on 20 March 2000 in the Cathedral of San Diego de Alcala in Gumaca, Quezon by Archbishop Antonio Franco, former Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
On 14 May 2004, Bishop Oliveros was appointed Bishop of Malolos. He was installed on 5 August 2004 in Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Malolos.
During his 13 year rule, he presided over the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese in 2012 and starting the Second Synod in 2013. He also created a low-cost housing program for the poor called “Jubilee Shelter Program.” He also led the CBP Office in Bioethics.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten years ago and has undergone more than 30 chemotherapy treatments.
He was last seen during the episcopal ordination of his former Vicar-General now Bishop of Iba, Zambales Most Rev. Bartolome G. Santos Jr. on 30 April 2018.
His remains are on Cathedral - Basilica Minore of the Immaculate Conception, Malolos City, Bulacan and his burial will be on 17 May 2018 at the crypt of the Basilica Minore after the 9:00 AM requiem mass.
